Yup.....I'm with the band!

Welcome to my online journal of my journey from fat girl to phat girl :) I had the Lap Band surgery in 2007 and I'm closing in on my goal weight... this next year is critical in reaching this goal and moving past a lot of junk and poor habits.

I'm in love and it's not with a Man.... or a Woman! LOL! I'm in love with Beach Body and what it has helped me accomplish in the last three years. The Lap Band is not a gimmick and it isn't an unlockable Chasity Belt. It's HARD HARD work and what's made it possible for me to lose these 90+ lbs, however, slowly is Beach Body. Yoga Booty Ballet and Hip Hop Abs has given me back my girliness :)

I'll be as candid as I can without letting all my mystery :)

You'll follow me through intensive cardio training... back to basics lap bandisms, maybe an adjustment or two, the headache of what this loss does to the body (loose skin--- eww!), my support group for Lap Band and Bariatric patients both Pre and Post Op, and OH YES my 40th birthday! This won't be BORing!

Yes Whey!

I get a lot of people who ask me about protein supplements and if they really need them. My answer is yes and no. I choose to take Beachbody's Whey Protein Powder because I find it easier to whip up a protein smoothie than to make 6 egg whites for breakfast. So yes if you know you may need help with taking in extra protein. But no if you feel like you can take in all the protein you need by eating enough forms of it like eggs, chicken, beef and fish.

In the past, I've tried many different 2001. So far, I'd have to say that I am really impressed and in love with Beachbody's Whey Protein Powder. Here's why I like it:

1.It tastes great

2.It mixes easily, its more like a fine powder (like flour). Some protein powders are very grainy. There's nothing worse than trying to drink your shake and chewing a bit on gritty powder substance... yuck!

3.I can use a blender, a shaker cup or a spoon and its still great. My number one choice tho is blender because I like to add frozen banana and fruit instead of ice.

4.Its good with milk, water or juice

5.It doesn't upset my stomache, wich is a big plus since I'm a lab band patient and my stomache is very VERY picky!

6.Its great when mixed with oatmeal

7.It cooks great in pancake and waffle mix.

I believe in trying a product before I suggest someone else try it. Just like the P90X Protein Bars (The chocolate Fudge are DELICIOUS), Beach Body's Whey protein in both flavors makes my life so much simpler and hey I truly don't mind the results I see in loss of inches and weight on the scale!

Some people would say a big part of my 104 weightloss has been due to my lapband... I tell those people they're way off! The lapband does not prevent me from eating whatever I want.. changing the way I handle matters in life and wanting to put healthy foods in my body and pushing myself to exercise shaved off those pounds and decreased my chances of heart disease and diabetes.
Hate to bust your bubble, but there is no magic pill and it won't just come one day... you have to be determined and make up in your mind you're going to take action to get fit and healthy.

I'm tired now LOL!

I'm excited and Nervous all rolled in one! today is my Home Party for my Beach Body Business at noon! It's my first and ....oooooh boy!
I had hoped some friends would be supportive, but that just goes to show where our friendship is. Instead of being dissapointed I'm just filing certain things in the back of my mind for future reference.
I don't ask that friends and family spend money or make a rushed desision wether Beach Body is something for them or not. I just wanted to invite them to introduce them to Shakeology and the business.... it's just too bad some people have to judge I'm expecting something from them that I'm really not. Anyway it's just not a big deal and it's good I'm learning of these "toxic" friendships so I can push them further from me.
Regardless.... my business is going to flourish and be blessed by God because I'm giving HIM all the glory!

I was going through the message boards last night and reading up on INSANITY and I had to make a decision based on coaching.
I've pushed back my INSANITY start date so I can get two essential tools needed to be successful! I don't wan't to go in this half-assed.
What I learned is it's essential to have a good pair of cross trainers and mine are on their last legs. I wear a size 11 shoe and these run around $60 which is tight for me at the moment :) I also need a Heart Moniter and these retail between $40 and $60 too.... so I need to purchase these and then start INSAnity.
Using Wisdom, and Prayer to God, I've decided to make two dolls (OH YEAH I make dolls) and retail them on ebay for the amount needed.... pretty smart huh?
So for the next four weeks I'll be re-starting Hip Hop Abs followed by INSANITY!!!

My Insanity Challenge
Starting March 15, 2010
March 12th is my three year Bandiversary! I had my Lap Band surgery three years ago and in these three years I’ve lost about 90 lbs! I’m excited about starting Insanity to further test and challenge my body and to tone and lose the last 25-30 lbs!
It so wasn’t my idea to make this as public as I am, but hey it keeps me accountable and if I have to look a little “exposed” to help or encourage someone who is now in a place I once was… Okay!


I’ve prepped for this experience by using Hip Hop Abs and I feel confident and ready to take on this challenge 110%!!! By this I make a vow to myself to do Insanity every day, ‘cept Sunday for the next 60 days! I will also follow the nutritional guidelines as close as I can. Being a Lap Band recipient, there are just some foods I don’t tolerate, but the manual is very helpful.
Here’s what I want to accomplish from this Challenge:
- Lose 25 lbs
- Get into a size 10
- Prepare Myself for the Three Day Walk for the Cure in San Diego
- Increase longevity
- Tone the best I can in my Core, Legs, Thigh and Arms
- Increase lean muscle & decrease my BMI
I’m working with my customer Pam and trying to be a good example to encourage her. We’ll be going to my High School track three days a week and she’ll walk while I Walk/Run.
What I’m doing for Pam, I would also like to do for you! As an Independent Beach Body Coach I would like to challenge you into challenging your body for it’s ultimate health. Transform your body and your mind by working out, losing weight and feeling good about yourself!

I didn't get up and exercise on my "Rest Day" but I did get up and start cleaning my apartment. I scrubbed my bathroom so squeeky cleen and vacuumed and swept... (i seriously want a swifter)... I washed dishes and started a load of laundry and it's only 7:30 LOL!
So I made a whey chocolate peanutbutter shake and I'm gonna finish up, but had to stop and say good morning :) I'm feeling real good! Still crampy, but good just the same. Especially since my guest is leaving Tuesday and I get my apartment back! Yaaaay~

Tomorrow is Sunday... and day from working out, but I feel like getting some activity on.... I started my cycle and I hate this feeling, but working out takes away the bad cramping! I'm excited about doin Hip Hop Abs Monday, but really hope my "friend" who is "crashing" at my apartment leaves so I can exercise without all th weirdness of her being here... that's just stress I don't need right now....
Monday I'm also starting my Bariatric shakes etc.... I ordered more shakes and entrees from Bariatric Choice... I really wanna do this right and get in the Calories and Protein needed for both Hip Hop Abs and then Insanity.... I also so wanna get that good Jasmine Green Tea Emily got me hooked on years ago. This tea is awesome and doesn't need sweetner!
I'm going to have to rely on green tea during my workouts and after since I don't have the funds now for Recovery.....
I'm also making a crockpot of red beans.... that'll be helpful during the week for some beany goodness :) Okay well I'm watching Dave Chapelle... OMG funny stupid LOL so I'm gonna wind down for the night now :)

Oh yeah I'm also looking for some good shoes for a size 11 women.... any ideas, let me know :)

I've re-newed my love with Beach Body! I've done prelim of Hip Hop Abs the last two days and I'm geared up to go into a set of Hip Hop Abs for the next two weeks followed by Shawn T's Insanity!
Yep I'm scared, but so very excited! I'm drinking a chocolate whey shake and can't wait to start Recovery... everything is just so exciting and I'm going to be blogging a lot more and posting some video and pics soon too....
Some pics may be TMI lol! but I'm trying to document my progress :)
Today I need to clean my apartment... I've had someone staying with me who hasn't done a thing to help me keep the apartment clean grrr! anyway she's leaving so I can get my apartment back in order so I can concentrate on my beach body.
Oh I've also ordered twice again from Bariatric Choice! They're fabulous! I highly recommend them if you're a bariatric patient. From time to time I'll tell you what I think of the products....

This a ONCE in A BLUE MOON Recipe... cot's it got the bad elements of my OLD eating ways... so please eat with CAUTION :)




Bacon and Cream Cheese Roll-Ups


1/2 loaf white sandwich bread (square slices are best)


1 8oz package of cream cheese, softened


1 clove garlic minced


1 tsp italian seasoning blend


1 tsp dried parsley flakes


1/8 tsp pepper


1 lb bacon1.




1 Mix together the cream cheese, garlic, seasoning, parsley and pepper until well blended.


2. Cut the bacon slices in half.


3. Cut the crusts off the bread, and spread each slice evenly with cream cheese (I use about a heaping tablespoon per slice, then cut each slice of bread into 3 strips.


4. Roll up each strip of bread and wrap with 1/2 slice of bacon. Secure with a toothpick. I usually just keep going until I run out of bacon. This usually takes about 1/2 a loaf the bread and most of the cream cheese mixture. If you have leftover cream cheese, it is great spread on crackers or toasted bagels.


5. At this point, you can go ahead and bake them, or you can stash them in the fridge or the freezer to bake later (if baking from frozen, add about 5-10 minutes to your cooking time).


6. Bake at 375F for 15-20 minutes until the bacon is crisp. Drain on paper towels for about 5 minutes to cool a bit, and serve.


CREAMY GARDEN TURKEY ROLL UPS
Kids LOVE these…and they’re so excited to eat rolled up turkey, they forget to notice the vegetables!
These are quick to make and keep well in the refrigerator for a super easy grab-n-go lunch. You can vary the veggie ingredients to suit your taste or what’s on hand in the fridge…go nuts with other seasonings. Pair them with some soy chips and you’ve got a complete meal that will keep you full for hours!

One 8-ounce pkg fat-free cream cheese1/4 cup finely shredded carrot1/4 cup finely shredded zucchini1 tablespoon dried No Sugar Added cranberries, chopped1/2 teaspoon dill weedPinch of garlic powderKosher salt and black pepper to tasteSix ounces roasted turkey breast, deli sliced
In a small bowl combine cream cheese, carrot, zucchini, cranberries, dill weed, and garlic powder. Season with salt and pepper if desired. Place 2 tablespoons of cream cheese mixture onto each slice of turkey. Roll up tightly and wrap in plastic wrap. Allow to chill for two hours. Makes six servings.

Turkey Havarti and Apple Roll-Ups
Ingredients:

Spinach-Turkey Roll-Ups Recipe

Ingredients
· 2 teaspoon mustard, honey
· dash(es) nutmeg, ground
· 8 slice(s) turkey, breast
· 1 cup(s) spinach, baby
· 1/2 medium pepper(s), red, bell, seeded and cut into thin strips
· 4 cheese, string (mozzarella), sticks You can also opt out on the cheese for a piece of avocado.... or use a nice goat cheese and olive tapidade... YUM!


Recipe Tip:
Make-Ahead Directions: Prepare turkey roll-ups as directed. Wrap each roll-up in plastic wrap. Chill roll-ups in the refrigerator for up to 4 hours.
Preparation
1. In a small bowl, stir together honey mustard and nutmeg. Carefully spread mustard mixture evenly onto turkey slices.
2. Divide spinach among turkey slices, allowing leaves to extend beyond the turkey. Top with pepper strips and cheese.
3. Starting at an edge of a turkey slice with cheese, roll up each turkey slice. If desired, cut each roll-up in half.




I'm still not losing as fast as I would like to, but I know hat's a good thing, because the slower I lose, the better I have at keeping it off and adding tone...


Well this morning I got on the scale to 193 lbs! Wow a long way from where I started in 2007, and about 32 lbs to go!!!


So here I sit sipping on this "yummy" protein shake and ready to start my day.

Super EASY to mix! Just pull the tab off the cap and pour in COLD water to top of label then shake shake shake... and not a lot of shaking and it mixed up without the yucky clumps you get from mixing cold water to some protein drinks :(


This REALLY tastes like Nestle Quick's chocolate Milk and mixed up without CLUMPS!!!!

There's no yucky after taste and 15 grams of PROTEIN!! Those of you who've had the lap band can testify that protein is a GOOOOOD thing :)

Well I'm totally enjoying this 100 calorie beverage and I've already began to pep up from the lull of the day at my desk.

Men think and respond totally left of us chix! The Key is learning the basics that make talking to them less.... traumatizing.

1. Hey Bitch Slow DOWN! We tend to talk faster than we think! We get all excited and talk like we're Charo... this makes it hard for anyone, not just a man to understand and appreciate what we have to say... let alone respond!

2. LET HIM RESPOND! Wait for him. It's not ALWAYS that men are SLOW, but it takes them a little more time to process things when talking to us. Don't pressure him to answer your questions or answer for him (THAT's a date KILLER). Chill and Give him a minute.... GEESH!

3. Don't beat around the bush! Be direct. Little girls skirt around, Grown Ass Women get to the POINT! Girls we mess this up all the time because we think that we can hint at the answer or give him clues about what we want him to do or say or give, etc. DANGER!!!! Men don't want women to be subtle with them, they want a woman to say exactly what they want and exactly how they feel. Sorry hun but, men will very rarely guess what's on your mind or correlate the cold shoulder you're giving him to something they did wrong.

4. MOST IMPORTANT: He is not one of the girls. This sounds overly obvious, but it is, in fact one of the major problems we have when talking to a man. Men are very rational, so when a woman vents her feelings with him, he will try to solve her problem rather than sympathize with her like her girlfriends will. Learn to expect him to be like that, and it will be less frustrating when he seems "emotion-less." Truth is, he is full of emotions for the woman and he thinks offering suggestions to solve this issue is the best way to help her.


So Girls... get your head on right! I know I may lose my Bad Girl Card by saying this, but it isn't ALWAYS his fault.... shut your mouth and think and don't OVERTHINK!

Zuppa Toscana(adapted from allrecipes.com)
Ingredients
1 pound mild Italian ground sausage
5 slices bacon, baked and crumbled
1 large onion, diced
2 tablespoon minced garlic
5 (13.75 oz) cans chicken broth
3 medium potatoes, thinly sliced rounds
3/4 cup heavy cream
1 bunch fresh kale
1 tsp. fennel seeds
1 1/4 teaspoons crushed red pepper flakes
salt and black pepper to taste
Directions:
Cook the ground Italian sausage in a pan over medium-high heat until crumbly, browned, and no longer pink. About 10 to 15 min. Drain and set aside.
Place bacon on a baking sheet and bake at 350 degrees until crisp, about 10 minutes. Place bacon on paper towel to drain and then crumble bacon and set aside. You may save a couple tablespoons of the bacon drippings and use it to saute the onions and garlic.
In a large pot saute onions and garlic in a couple tablespoons of the bacon drippings or oil(whichever you prefer). Cook until onions are soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
Pour the chicken broth into the pot with the onion mixture and add crumbled bacon. Bring to a boil over high heat. Add the sliced potatoes, and boil until fork tender, about 15 minutes. Reduce the heat to medium and stir in the heavy cream cooked sausage, fennel seeds, and crushed red pepper flakes; heat through. Add salt and pepper if needed. Mix kale into the soup until wilted just before serving.



1 quart chicken stock
3 or 4 chicken parts (skinned, on bone)
1 can unsweetened coconut milk
1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
1 tablespoon ginger, freshly grated
1 teaspoon garlic, freshly grated
juice of one lemon or lime plus zest
1 cup fresh mushrooms, chopped
1/2 cup carrot, grated
sea salt, to taste
ground pepper, to taste
1/4 cup cilantro leaves (or basil or mint)
1/4 cup sliced scallions or green onions
Place the chicken stock and chicken parts in a covered pot and bring to boil. Simmer for 60 to 90 minutes. Remove the chicken parts, remove meat from bones, and return meat to pot (discard the bones). Add the coconut milk, chili flakes, ginger, garlic, lemon juice and zest, mushrooms, and carrots to the chicken stock. Return to boil and then simmer for 10-15 minutes. Add salt and pepper to taste and sprinkle with cilantro and onions. Serves 4-6.


I got this recipe from a brine for Turkey Roast.

I measure nothing LOL!

poke holes in three skinless chicken breasts with a fork

In a ziplog bag place the chicken

add three sprigs of Rosemary and four sprigs of Thyme

Pour in a cup and a half of apple cider


Now you can let this sit a good two hours, but I let mine sit overnight in the fridge.


Once well brined.... pat dry with paper towels and sit hte chicken aside


On a plate I pour a little olive oil and seasonings


Cover both sides of the chicken and lay in a roasting pan


Cook on 450 for 20 minues then reduce heat to 245 and cook an additional 20 minutes.

Add vegetables... any kind works... brussel sprouts are yummy!

I top the chicken with a glaze I made from frozen peaches and then stick the chicken back in the oven for yes... 20 more minutes.... then done :)

It's been almost three full years since I started this journey. March 12th 2007 was a date that changed my life.
I can clearly remember Dr. Monaco administrating the "Happy Juice" into my IV LOL!
I had never been in a hospital or had surgery... not counting my own birth. I was wearing this skimpy gown with my ass all out.. these cool comfy socks and I had no panties on!
Normally I have no problem with this, but I was 289lbs and had low self esteem and was scared shitless because I was going under anesthesia for the first time... I just hoped and prayed, as I loss consiousness, that I would wake up.
This was a SUCCESS for me. I made a step in the right direction. A direction of LIFE versus the path to ill health and self destruction I was skipping on.
Feelings of Failure... OMG when I don't get out of bed for that cardio... when I know I'm not drinking enough water... when I fall prey to that Nutter Butter LOL!
The funny thing is the feelings of failure are few and far and the moment's of success outwiegh them like a flood.
